About Our Services for Children

Educational Psychology Services

We offer observation, consultation and assessment for individuals, families and schools. Colour Me Happy Ltd provides Educational Psychology work at the individual, group and organisation level. Work includes observation, assessment, consultation and interventions working with the child or young person and the systems around them, primarily home and school. This piece of work may constitute a stand alone assessment or a series of sessions.

Those children and young people for whom this service is applicable are those with special educational needs (SENs) and those with any difficulty that is affecting their ability to experience happiness and well-being and is impacting on their ability to develop, learn and fulfil their potential.

Usually a summary of work is provided upon completion of the work. Prices for work are drawn up as a work agreement but payment is only made on the completion of the work and/or written work. Most work is specific according to the needs of the child and/or family and a consultation is always offered initially to discuss the issues and desired outcomes of the work.

Play Therapy

Colour Me Happy Ltd offers individual and group play therapy sessions for children, and young people. The approach also involves the systems around the individual, primarily the home and school. The non-directive approach used is based on the notion that individuals have the ability to solve their own difficulties. The way in which the play therapy sessions are set up facilitates the individual to do this. The particular approach follows the theories of Virginia Axline and Carl Rogers. The individual is provided with a consistent space, resources and relationship to explore issues relevant to them. The resources used involve: music, art and creative materials, role play, puppets, sandplay and symbols, therapeutic stories, creative visualisations.

Play Therapy can be used for individuals with difficulties in the following areas:

  • Emotional development and behaviour

  • Attachment

  • Social relationships and communication: for example Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome

  • Language

  • Global Developmental Delay

  • Attention and concentration

  • Traumatic life experiences

Sandplay Therapy

Sandplay Therapy is a mainly non-verbal therapy. It can be appropriate for children and young people when talking therapy has not been successful. Sandplay therapy works on the development of a consistent relationship over time and uses symbolism to access the child or young person's internal world. The nature of sandplay therapy means that it is not always essential to complete sessions every week.
