Point of view 🐾

I have been struggling a lot these last few weeks with point of view in picture books. I tend to automatically gravitate to the narrator role so that I don’t have any blind spots in the plot, but this then doesn’t allow the emotional connection with the main character.

It doesn’t make sense to me that someone with extensive drama training and experience, psychological knowledge and writing experience that I find this so challenging, but still I do. I wonder if it is the act of typing that is making it too academic for me? I am wondering whether I may have to use audio recording and speak my stories out first. I tell my children stories all the time and they love them so it must be the computer that makes things too academic for me. I had an agent 121 the other day and they also said my query letter was too academic so maybe I’m onto something here.

I am going to try and audio record my stories from my head and see what happens and then I can transcribe what works after... I’ll keep you posted ✏️
