Point of view šŸ¾

I have been struggling a lot these last few weeks with point of view in picture books. I tend to automatically gravitate to the narrator role so that I donā€™t have any blind spots in the plot, but this then doesnā€™t allow the emotional connection with the main character.

It doesnā€™t make sense to me that someone with extensive drama training and experience, psychological knowledge and writing experience that I find this so challenging, but still I do. I wonder if it is the act of typing that is making it too academic for me? I am wondering whether I may have to use audio recording and speak my stories out first. I tell my children stories all the time and they love them so it must be the computer that makes things too academic for me. I had an agent 121 the other day and they also said my query letter was too academic so maybe Iā€™m onto something here.

I am going to try and audio record my stories from my head and see what happens and then I can transcribe what works after... Iā€™ll keep you posted āœļø
