Last night, I decided to spend some writing time engaging in learning instead. I have so many opportunities under the SBCWI and 12 x 12 memberships. I actually forgot that both of these have so many things on their sites for members. I also have @writementor which has lots of resources to access. There is so much! I listened to a 12 x 12 video on writing non-fiction and felt really really motivated! I have a story from my childhood that would really lend itself to a nonfiction picture book.
I think I will focus on tightening up my queries so that I can send multiple queries off in the next few weeks. I also might invest in a critique by a professional to give me some pointers re: my picture book texts. I have no problem keeping picture book texts to limited words (500-600), which is a good thing, but sometimes I need help from a reader to spot aspects in the plot that may need developing a bit further.
This week, I have put a manuscript up onto write mentor site and I have some helpful feedback to work on. This was a first draft that I wrote on FRIDAY for FirstdraftFriday. I also entered a Curtis Brown Creative 270 Twitter writing prompt on Thurs and I got lots of likes this time š I sent my rhyme for a text to a rhyme specialist and she also gave me helpful feedback. I entered write mentorās pitchhero. This was all encouraging!
Plan for next few days:
* Make suggested changes to texts
* Consider possible story arc for nonfiction text
* Put some drafts onto membership sites to get feedback to work on
* Consider options for paid critiques
Letās do this!
