Her Ladyship

I have always known that I would write a book about the Titanic. Ever since the age of 8, I have been obsessed with the ‘unsinkable’ ship. I used to know all kinds of facts, but I have tried to distract myself from this as I have got

older. Since 2012, I have been on biyearly pilgrimages to relevant places, Southampton, Belfast, Queenstown (now Cobh), Halifax, Nova Scotia to visit the graves and I have listened to Bob Ballard speak live in Belfast about his amazing find in 1985.

I started a book for adults in 1992, but I didn’t finish it because I became so bogged down with getting my facts correct. Last year, I visited Tennessee to the Titanic Museum experience with a friend I made on my trip to Belfast. This experience was exactly that an experiential quest rather than a location linked to the ship. I developed an interest in the pets on board and this year I have written a historical fiction picture book called Her Ladyship and the Fallen Star. it could be just Her Ladyship. It’s based on the facts known about a particular dog and how she survives along with the humans around her. I have just received the first interest in it. My critique group believe that it has a future… I really hope this is THE book 📚

Here is the pitch:

It’s 1912, and Lady, a Pomeranian, is on her way to a new life with her human, Margaret, on board the Titanic. Loud noises, the dark and crowds terrify Lady! So, when her ship begins to sink, Lady must face her fears to save herself, her human and two orphans from the icy grips of the Atlantic Ocean.
